The Power of Prayer

The Prayer Ministry Director Sis. Pat

At Community Gospel Church, we recognize there is power in prayer.  The Bible tells us that the effectual fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much.  In other words, the heartfelt continued prayer of a righteous person makes tremendous power available.  God has blessed Community Gospel with people who know how to pray.

The Prayer Ministry is composed of a group of people who are serving the Lord by praying on behalf of others.  Intercessory prayer is a very important function for the church as it plays a role in all aspects of every ministry.  God calls us to "pray without ceasing" in I Thes. 5:17.

We meet once a month to join together for praise and prayer.  We are updated on previous prayer requests and discuss issues as needed.  The prayer team also meets in the back of the church before each service to pray for our pastors, the different ministries, and the congregation.  The Word tells us "in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known to God.  We seek the Lord for His guidance during our services.  During altar call, we pray for those seeking prayer.  The Lord moves mightily in our services.  We contribute this to the praise, prayers, and love we have for the Lord.

There are services when an altar call or invitation for prayer is given.  Those requesting prayer come to the front of the church and are usually met by someone who will pray with them until the pastors have the opportunity.  This portion of the service can take quite a bit of time.  However, we believe it is well worth it.  It is usually at this point that people receive salvation, the infilling of the Holy Spirit, or even healing.

We believe in the power of prayer so much that there are times during the year we call a church wide prayer meeting.  At these "prayer meetings", people come to the church for a time set aside just to seek the face of God.  These occasions have proven to be incredible times of refreshment and revival.

We also ask the congregation to take time each week for "Unity in Prayer".  Every Monday evening from 6:00 to 6:15, we pause from whatever we are doing and pray for the church and our pastors.  It is great to know that people are joining you from their cars, homes, or wherever they are for these few minutes in prayer.
If you have a need in your life and would like our prayer team to pray for you, please email us at cgospel@communitygospel.org or call us at 713/880-9235.
