Baptism Sunday September 12th Directly following the Sunday morning service of the 12th, we will be having baptisms. At CGC, we recognize the importance of baptism. However, we do not believe it is a pre-requisite for salvation. Baptism is an outward sign of what has occurred inwardly. When we accept Jesus into our heart, the former person has passed away, we are buried with Jesus, and we begin to walk in the newness of life. Some churches believe you need to be baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit while others believe you must be baptized in the name of Jesus. Here at CGC, we baptize in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit under the authority of the name of Jesus. We are also aware many believe in "sprinkling" while others believe you must be immersed in water. We are fortunate enough to have a baptistry with heated water to baptize by immersion. If folks are not able to be immersed, "sprinkling" is certainly an option. The whole point of baptism is the public confession of Jesus as savior. If you would like to be baptized, please contact the church office for more information.

Kidz Krew Open House "A Life Changing Event!"
|
CGC hosted its second Kids Krew Open House on August 14, 2010. The focus of the open house was "Building a Life Centered on Christ." There was such an awesome move of God during that time. This year, the Praise Team was asked to lead the children in worship by singing some classic children songs like "This Little Light of Mine," and "Blessed Be the Name of the Lord." Everyone was singing, dancing, and praising God, which really took worship to a new level for the kids. Following praise and worship, the kids had a craft project that involved putting together a cross that showed God is Love. After the craft exercise, the lesson tied in the songs from worship as we talked about how God is the strong tower that protects us, and how if we build our life on His Word, we will have a solid foundation that will strengthen us for the rest of our lives. There was a visual demonstration based on the parable in Matthew about the wise and foolish builders. Not only did the kids enjoy the visualization because they were involved, the really understood the message conveyed - it is unstable to build on shifting sand. But with Christ as your foundation, you will never be shaken.
As the lesson wrapped up, one of the visiting children accepted Christ into his life. It was so amazing to know this child's life was forever changed in that moment.
Praise God for another successful outreach! And Praise God for all the support received by everyone involved during the Open House and behind the scenes.

A huge thank you goes out to everyone who worked so hard to make this year's float such a success. A very special thanks to Tim and Michelle for the MANY hours spent designing and building our entry. If you are visiting our website as a result of the Pride Parade, welcome! We gave away 5,000 hacky-sacs with our web address printed on them. We are trusting the Holy Spirit to draw folks to Jesus through the efforts we made during the parade and festival. If you felt that gentle tugging on your heart, it is the Lord inviting you into a close and personal relationship with Him. He made it so simple, you can begin that relationship right now. We are told in the Bible that if you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and God raised Him from the dead, you shall be saved. There are no exclusions ... God loves YOU ... your sexual orientation, gender identity, race, economic status, or any other barrier you may think separates you from God's love is done away with!

This year's float was nothing short of fab-u-lous! It featured part of our worship team - Sven, Christa, Marti, Keith, and Kyle. They sang and played "A New Hallelujah!" The crowd was so very receptive as we came down the parade route with music playing and lights flashing. Most of all, we knew the Holy Spirit was sending out a very clear message ... God's love does not discriminate! We do want to thank all of the folks who worked so hard on making our entry a success - Michelle, Kelly, Tim, Donna, Marti, Robert, and everyone else who helped out.

| Get Your Copy of "For Such A Time As This" |

"For Such A Time As This" is the story of the birthing of an incredible ministry. Evelyn Schave was one of those preachers from the "old school" condemning everything from make up (yes, even on women) to men with long hair - not to mention the "H" word. But something wonderful happened ... "God got a hold of her". Evelyn and her husband Dennis have changed their message to one of love and acceptance focusing on the GLBT community. Who would have thought a couple from the Pentecostal denomination would end up as Honorary Grand Marshals for the Gay Pride Parade? "For Such A Time As This" is the story of how this ministry began and how far they have come. While the initial printing of the book was several years ago, additional pictures and captions have given it a new life. If you would like your copy of "For Such A Time As This", please send your name and address with your request to: Community Gospel Church 608 Aurora Houston, TX 77008 We are not charging a fee for the book, but proceeds from donations will go for printing and shipping costs. All funds above these costs will go to Schave Ministries.
